TAG Oil Restructures Leadership to Enhance Operations in Egypt

In a notable change to enhance its operational strategy, TAG Oil Ltd. (TSXV: TAO, OTCQX: TAOIF, FSE: T0P) has made significant adjustments to its leadership team. Effective immediately, Mr. Abdel (Abby) Badwi has been appointed as the Executive Chairman and CEO, taking over from Mr. Toby Pierce, who has resigned to explore other business ventures.

Mr. Badwi’s recent relocation to Cairo, Egypt, has been pivotal in reshaping the company’s operational framework. Since May, he has concentrated on assessing TAG Oil’s performance strategies while assembling a proficient team of Egyptian professionals to manage the company’s operations in the region. This initiative has culminated in the successful recruitment of a skilled technical and operational team composed of experienced Egyptian nationals, reinforcing TAG Oil’s commitment to local expertise.

Under Mr. Badwi’s leadership, TAG Oil will continue to operate from Cairo, collaborating closely with Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Mr. Suneel Gupta. Together, they will oversee corporate and operational progress while driving the company’s expansion efforts in Egypt.

The restructuring comes on the heels of a recently announced capital infusion of $6.8 million from an offering, which is expected to bolster TAG Oil’s financial standing. As part of this strategic realignment, the company will also be eliminating several positions based in Canada. This move is designed to significantly lower general and administrative costs, allowing TAG Oil to allocate its financial resources more effectively towards capital spending initiatives.

Reflecting on the transition, Mr. Badwi expressed gratitude for Mr. Pierce’s contributions during his tenure at TAG Oil. He acknowledged that Mr. Pierce played a crucial role in monetizing the company’s legacy assets in New Zealand and positioning it for growth in Egypt. Looking ahead, Mr. Badwi emphasized the immense potential of TAG Oil’s Egyptian assets and the necessity for a permanent leadership presence in Cairo, combined with local management expertise.

TAG Oil is strategically focused on developing its operations within Egypt’s Western Desert, particularly targeting the unconventional heavy oil Abu Roash “F” (ARF) formation at the Badr oil field (BED-1). This formation is estimated to contain over 500 million barrels of oil in place, presenting substantial commercial development opportunities.

The company’s strategy leverages Canadian and U.S. expertise in unconventional horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing techniques to maximize oil recovery from these complex reservoirs. The management team aims to apply proven technologies that have successfully enhanced production rates in similar Canadian fields.

TAG Oil’s recent organizational changes reflect a proactive approach to enhancing its operational capabilities and financial efficiency as it pivots towards growth in Egypt’s promising oil sector.
