Quebec’s James Bay region has quietly become one of the more closely watched corners of the global lithium map. The area sits atop a belt of spodumene bearing pegmatites, the hard rock source of much of the lithium used in electric vehicle batteries, and it already hosts several advanced projects, including the Whabouchi deposit. What has been missing, until recently, is a single company holding enough contiguous ground to test the full scale of the geology rather than a fragment of it.
Li-FT Power Ltd. (TSXV: LIFT) has spent much of 2026 trying to close that gap. Earlier this year, the company assembled a large, connected land position in the region through its acquisition of Winsome Resources Limited, combined with separate agreements involving Azimut Exploration Inc. (TSXV: AZM) and SOQUEM Inc., a mineral exploration arm of the Quebec provincial government. The result is what the company now calls the Adina Galinée Lithium Project, a spodumene pegmatite complex that no longer sits behind competing claim boundaries.
That consolidation matters because hard rock lithium deposits often extend well beyond the property line where a junior explorer happened to stake its first claim. Bringing adjoining ground under one owner allows for a resource estimate, and eventually a mine plan, that reflects the geology rather than the history of who staked what and when. It also removes a layer of negotiation risk that can slow down permitting and financing later in a project’s life.
Li-FT has announced that it has begun drilling at Adina Galinée under a program calling for 163 diamond drill holes totalling 38,970 meters. That is a substantial campaign for a company of this size, and it is designed less as a single make or break event than as a steady stream of assay results arriving over the coming months. For a small, actively traded exploration stock, that kind of drip feed of data points, each one a potential catalyst, tends to keep a name in circulation with investors who follow the sector closely.
The company’s own project materials describe Adina Galinée as a near surface deposit already carrying an indicated and inferred resource of 78 million tons of ore, and a completed preliminary economic assessment. Located roughly 60 kilometers from the existing Renard diamond mine, the project could potentially use nearby infrastructure rather than building processing capacity from scratch, an advantage that matters a great deal in a remote part of Quebec where new roads and power lines are expensive to build.
None of this guarantees an outcome. Exploration drilling is, by definition, an attempt to find out something not yet known, and results from a program this size will arrive in stages over months, not all at once. The 163 planned holes are spaced roughly 50 meters apart across the pegmatite complex, a pattern intended to fill gaps between previously drilled sections and extend the known mineralized zones rather than simply confirm what has already been found.
Lithium prices have also been volatile, and that backdrop shapes how the market is likely to receive this newsflow. Spodumene concentrate prices fell sharply through 2024 and into 2025 before recovering through the back half of 2025 and into 2026, a swing that has affected every hard rock lithium developer’s share price, Li-FT included. A company can post strong drill results and still see a muted market reaction if commodity sentiment is working against it, just as modest results can be read generously when prices are climbing. That context is worth keeping in mind alongside the geology itself.
What the Adina Galinée program does represent is a company testing, in a very literal sense, whether the size of its consolidated land position translates into the size of resource it believes is there. Assay results from the first holes are expected in the coming months, and each batch will offer a small piece of evidence either supporting or complicating that thesis. For a district that has drawn comparisons to some of the larger hard rock lithium camps outside Québec, that is the kind of test worth watching closely.
