Google Launches Pixel 8 & 8 Pro with Unique Features

Google unveiled its latest technological marvels on Wednesday, introducing the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro smartphones. Priced at $699 and $999, respectively, these devices serve as a testament to Google’s high-powered AI capabilities. They offer groundbreaking advancements in photography and videography, an intuitive assistant capable of managing calls, and, notably, a built-in thermometer on the Pixel 8 Pro, a remarkable feature in the smartphone arena. Google is in collaboration with the FDA to ensure accurate body temperature measurements.

Much like Apple’s iPhone 15 series, Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro boast a range of shared features. However, the Pixel Pro model incorporates subtle enhancements that render it a compelling choice for consumers seeking a top-tier smartphone.

The Pixel 8 boasts Google’s innovative 6.2-inch Actua OLED display, featuring a screen refresh rate reaching an impressive 120 frames per second. This ensures seamless gaming and app navigation. To optimize battery efficiency, the Pixel 8 adjusts to 60 frames per second during less demanding tasks.

Meanwhile, the Pixel 8 Pro showcases a 6.7-inch Super Actua OLED display with a variable refresh rate spanning from 1 frame per second to 120 frames per second. This feature aims to conserve battery life during lighter usage. Additionally, the Pro model offers enhanced brightness, measuring 2,400 nits, compared to the standard Pixel 8’s 2,000 nits.

Both phones sport refreshed designs with new color options, including the Pixel 8 Pro’s striking blue Bay hue, a standout choice for many.

Under the hood, the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro house cutting-edge Tensor G3 chip of Google, driving their diverse AI capabilities. Notably, the inclusion of a Face Unlock feature enables secure access to third-party apps and payment services, aligning with industry standards set by Apple’s Face ID.

On the camera front, the Pixel 8 debuts a 50-megapixel main camera sensor, capturing 21% more light for vivid daytime shots and clearer night photography. The ultra-wide camera also gains autofocus, enabling captivating macro photography.

The Pixel 8 Pro excels with a 50-MP main camera, achieving the same 21% light improvement. Additionally, it features a 48-MP ultra-wide camera, offering 105% more light, and a 48-MP, 5x optical telephoto camera for 56% brighter imagery. Professionals will appreciate the added camera controls, allowing precise customization of settings for optimal shots.

The Pixel 8 Pro’s integrated thermometer, positioned below its cameras, aims to gauge temperatures of items like beverages and cookware. Google is actively pursuing FDA approval to extend this functionality to measure body temperatures, though the timeline remains uncertain.

Beyond hardware, the true star of the show is the AI-powered software. Google equips both the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro with a host of innovative features, ensuring users have access to powerful AI tools without additional costs.

Key offerings center around the cameras. Magic Editor allows effortless object removal or repositioning within photos, enabling creative adjustments for striking visuals. It ensures transparency by appending metadata indicating alterations.

Best Take leverages AI to refine group photos, ensuring everyone looks their best. By selecting the optimal shot for each individual, the tool harmonizes expressions and gazes, eliminating the need for retakes.

Audio Magic Eraser enhances videos by removing extraneous background noise, refining the auditory experience. This feature is especially valuable in situations where clear audio is paramount.

Google also introduces Night Sight mode for video, enhancing low-light recording, and Video Boost, a cloud-based processing service that elevates overall video quality.

Additionally, the improved Assistant offers the convenience of screening calls, providing pre-determined responses based on the caller’s purpose. Its lifelike voice adds an uncanny realism to interactions. Lastly, the Assistant demonstrates multi-language proficiency during voice typing and can summarize website content.

Both the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro are set to hit stores on October 12, promising a new era of AI-driven smartphone experiences.
