Sitka Gold Corp. (OTCQX: SITKF, TSXV: SIG) has a track record of uncovering more than it initially targets. In late 2024, drilling at its RC Gold project in Yukon revealed unexpected tungsten mineralization alongside gold. What began as a typical gold exploration program gradually evolved as continued drilling and assays showed tungsten was not incidental, but a meaningful component of the system.
Sitka is a Canadian mineral exploration company focused on gold, silver, and copper, with an emphasis on district-scale opportunities in stable jurisdictions. Its flagship RC Gold project spans approximately 447 square kilometres in Yukon’s Tombstone Gold Belt, a region known for intrusion-related gold systems and expanding exploration potential.
The company’s strategy centers on consolidating land positions around emerging gold systems and advancing them through drilling and modeling toward scalable, bulk-tonnage deposits. This approach appeals to investors seeking projects with size and expansion potential rather than isolated high-grade intercepts. Rhosgobel adds a new dimension to that strategy, introducing a critical mineral component alongside precious metals.
An updated mineral resource estimate for Rhosgobel outlines an inferred resource of 100.68 million tonnes grading 0.70 g/t gold, 0.90 g/t silver, and 0.051% WO3. This equates to approximately 2.25 million ounces of gold, 2.93 million ounces of silver, and 51,345 tonnes of WO3. The implication is clear: Rhosgobel is no longer just a gold story, but a multi-metal system with added strategic relevance.
That relevance is tied to tungsten’s role in defense, aerospace, and advanced manufacturing. Both Canada and the United States classify tungsten as a critical mineral due to supply chain vulnerabilities. As North America looks to secure domestic sources of key materials, deposits that combine precious metals with strategic commodities are drawing increased attention.
Rhosgobel also benefits from encouraging early metallurgical results. Initial testing shows average gold recoveries of 94.3% using conventional whole-ore cyanidation, while tungsten flotation testing returned 84.7% recovery in rougher concentrate. These results suggest that both metals may be recoverable using established processing methods, an important factor in assessing long-term development potential.
For context, Northcliff Resources’ (OTC: NCFFF, TSX:NCF) Sisson tungsten-molybdenum project in New Brunswick illustrates how governments are supporting domestic tungsten supply. Sisson has received backing from both the U.S. Defense Production Act and Natural Resources Canada. While more advanced and larger in scale, it highlights the type of strategic interest that tungsten projects in Canada can attract.
Sitka remains at an earlier stage. Rhosgobel was discovered in late 2024, and its current resource is based on 72 drill holes totaling 15,396 metres, including historical work by Kennecott and more recent drilling by Sitka. The deposit remains open in all directions, indicating potential for further expansion.
The company’s 2026 exploration program is a key catalyst. Sitka has planned 60,000 metres of diamond drilling across RC Gold, with roughly 30,000 metres allocated to Rhosgobel alone, more than triple the drilling completed to date. Approximately 9,000 metres had been completed at last report, with assays pending, leaving the market focused on potential resource growth.
RC Gold already demonstrated significant scale prior to this update. Across the Blackjack, Eiger, and Rhosgobel deposits, the project hosts about 1.29 million ounces of indicated gold and 3.83 million ounces of inferred gold, now complemented by Rhosgobel’s silver and tungsten components. The project benefits from near-surface mineralization and road access, factors that can support future development scenarios.
Sitka has not yet defined the economics of Rhosgobel, and that remains a critical next step. However, the company has transformed what began as a promising gold discovery into a broader multi-metal opportunity. In doing so, it has positioned Rhosgobel at the intersection of gold exploration and North America’s growing focus on securing critical mineral supply chains.
